A privately owned campground with good facilities.
Big Sur Cabin and Campgrounds is tucked away off Highway 1. The site offers both campsites and cabins to rent. It is not managed by the government and is privately owned.
The cool thing about Big Sur Cabin and Campgrounds is that it has all the facilities that a hotel would have (a front desk, reservations, shower, and laundary), but you can tent camp. It is by a lovely stream and you can hear the sounds of water right near by.
There is also good hiking, as you can walk along the stream and look at the big redwoods. The only problem is that because it is tucked away, under big trees, and by water, its quite chilly. Little or no sun hits the site, which can make it very cold, especially if you are tent camping.
Yet it is very private, and clean. It is also managed well, and decently priced, considering you get access to facilities. Also, it is in a great location, almost right in the center of Big Sur. It is AAA rated, so AAA can provide more info.
