Wishon is a secluded campground tucked away in the southern Sierra Nevadas.
Wishon Campground is located in the southern tip of Sequoia National forest, about 15 miles outside of Springville, CA. Wishon is very private, as the sites are guarded by large red woods. Nights are very cold, but firewood is plentiful. Make sure to bring a hatchet to take advantage of local fallen red wood. Red wood burns for hours and makes for a great camp fire.
There is quite a bit of wildlife. We could hear animals outside our tent at night. There have been known to be bears, but if you keep your food locked up, they probably won't bother you.
There is a great walk that starts from the campground. It goes along the Tule River, which is beautiful. There are tons of white river washed rocks that line the river, and green ferns. The walk is both kid and adult friendly, and isn't so much a hike. It's just a mellow stroll through the campsite and surrounding areas.
Some of the campsites are located right on the river, which makes a great sound. There is also good fishing. You can find a local pool nearby which is stocked with rainbow trout. We caught a few fishes while we were there, and they were delicious.
Wishon is not easy to get to. The road is thin and windy, and it is tucked away. The campgound is beautiful though, with mountain scenery at its best. And you can't just run to the local store, so you must "commune" with nature.
